Suggested Trails

Polhill Reserve Loop 📱 (7km, 220m elevation change, Blue, Loop)

"The golden triangle of Transient, Highbury Fling and Clinical. This area is one of Wellington runners’ favourite playgrounds. Further paths in the area can be added on like Lego pieces for as many kilometres or hours as your hard working heart desires" Run Wellington running group.

Mt Victoria Loop 📱 (9.3km, 575m elevation change, Red, Loop)

With easy access and a great trail network, this is one of the best road-to-trail options within 5 mins from the busy Wellington CBD. Mount Victoria or Mt Vic, as it's known to many local runners, is simply not to be missed.

Sanctuary Fenceline 📱(9km, 375m elevation change, Blue, loop)

For non-locals who've never heard of Zealandia it is well worth spending some time understanding the background behind this amazing and successfully ambitious flora and fauna sanctuary. This run route will take you around the edge of this unique sanctuary.

From their own website: "Zealandia is the world’s first fully-fenced urban ecosanctuary, with an extraordinary 500-year vision to restore a Wellington valley’s forest and freshwater ecosystems as closely as possible to their pre-human state. The 225 hectare ecosanctuary is a groundbreaking conservation project that has reintroduced over 20 species of native wildlife back into the area, some of which were previously absent from mainland New Zealand for over 100 years"

The Bays Run 📱 (6.9km, 40m elevation change, Green, one-way)

The classic Wellington run along the waters edge. Also the course for the “Round the Bays” fun run event.

Southern Walkway 📱(10.2km, 340m elevation change, Red, one-way)

The Southern Walkway is a 10km trail between Oriental Bay and Island Bay. It is a good beginner trail as the majority is closed to public transport and has cellphone reception the entire trail. While there are a few steep climbs, they are not particularly difficult or long. The trail is well marked by pink bollards labelled with the Southern Walkway (photo below) along the entire walkway.
